BIO:
The Lady Gang inception was no ordinary birth. It’s what happens when a once lonely loop pedal, an electric guitar, a beat machine, and a set of pipes that have dominated the Denver music scene for 14 years, collide.
Lady Gang is Jen Korte as she artfully steps outside of the familiar and moves toward the discomfort of a good idea. The artist’s risk takes listeners for a ride that demands our attention. Lady Gang defies not only what we think we know about our favorite local artist but also what we thought we knew about musical technology.
Jen Korte is known to us as both a solo artist as well as a champion collaborator, is well versed in all genres of music, and played every venue you’ve heard of from Denver to Caribbean. A career rooted in both indie rock and hiphop seems to be the only backdrop that could help make sense of Lady Gang’s calculated execution of sound that drips with originality and soul.
Having opened for national acts like The Pharcyde, Mac Lethal and Wax, Shamar Allen of Galactic, and Nappy Roots, along with being nominated for ‘Best Singer-Songwriter” by Denver Westword in 2018 and winning the title for 2019, fans are taking note.

lady gang releases a beer!
May 23rd 2020, Lady Justice Brewing and Lady Gang Music have teamed up to combine two of Denver’s most prominent communities by releasing “Lady Gang’s Git It Goodness,” a craft beer whose label will include a download code for Lady Gang’s newest single,”Git It.” With women stepping forward and taking the lead in male dominated industries like craft beer brewing, music production and engineering, the two thought a beer collaboration was the perfect way to cross promote each other.
Lady Gang is Jen Korte, a live looping multi-instrumentalist and award winning musician known for her several projects and musical collaborations from all over the city. Her first full length album for this project, Full Throttle, was due out in the fall but has been postponed due to Covid-19. Her initial idea for the album rollout was to release three singles over the summer and use collaborations with other women around the city to create a community “Lady Gang.” |
From the album design to marketing assets like the beer, coloring books, a portrait gallery and a few more small products, the beer release was the be the first of many. Even the beer label was created by Sugarmag Creative, a marketing and graphics design company owned by two sisters living in the Virgin Islands, Jen Korte’s second home. All of the portrait work for the album art was taken by local queer photographer, Chelsey Pas, of Friends and Lovers Photography. “Lady Gang’s Git It Goodness” was the first product collaboration to come to life.
Lady Justice Brewing is run by Betsy Lay and her wife, Alison Wisneski. The mission statement of their brewery is to impact the organizations that work with women and girls in and around Denver through beer and art and using part of the proceeds to help fund those organizations. Betsy is also a musician and she and Korte have known each other around the music scene for years. Both Lady Justice and Lady Gang believe in being the representation they would like to see not only in their industry but as community leaders as well. THE BEER: The beer itself is a combination of what Lady Gang refers to as the best of both of her worlds (the desert and the sea). By combining the flavors of the desert, prickly pear, and the flavor of the beach, pineapple, they bring you a refreshing American Pale Lager just in time for summer. |

Reviews of the Ep:
"Unlike so many artists who open the Pandora's box of technology, creating music that is over the top and chaotic, Korte manages to be restrained and artful in her use of gadgets on Simple Truths. The result is a quilt of electronic and hip hop beats, Americana infused melodies and DIY attitude." - Kyle Harris, Denver Westword, July 21st 2018. Full article HERE

"The project's new EP, released tonight, is Simple Truths, is truth in advertising with Korte finding direct ways of discussing the world in its incredible disarray. The songs resist simple classification. "How Do You Sound" has elements of bluesy psychedelia and hip-hop as interpreted through someone like MC 900 Foot Jesus. "Preface This" is like a long lost Helium track with its electro-lounge and mysterious melodic strains." - Tom Murphy
